Obituary for Richard A Donaldson

Richard A  Donaldson
Richard A. Donaldson, age 82 passed away Friday, June 10 at his residence in Washington. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Marion and Doris (Williams) Donaldson. The family moved to Washington and became owners of Donaldson’s Toggery. Richard graduated from Washington High School in 1951. After graduation, he became co – owner of the Toggery, and shortly thereafter, he married He married JoAnn Wilbanks. During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force, specializing in Seismology. After his discharge, he returned home , and became active in the community affairs, serving as President of Kiwanis club, an active member in The Chamber of Commerce, a member of, the Carnegie Public Library building committee, and organizing events for Old Fashioned Days and the Sesquicentennial Celebration for Washington. Richard was also a member of the Washington Saddle Club. After his retirement in 1996 he worked part – time for the Press Dispatch in Petersburg and also as a week – end office manager for Daviess County Airport. For several years, he was a Valet for Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Richard was an avid motorcyclist having traveled throughout the United States and parts of Canada. As a parent, Richard instilled a love for animals into the lives of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife JoAnn; daughters, Dianna Daniel, and Jane (Dan) Morrissey; a son, Timothy (Maribeth) Donaldson; Grandchildren, Justin Hardy, Rick Daniel, Ian Dainel, Tyler Donaldson, Isaac Donaldson, Mia Thomas, Angelica Donaldson, and Julia Hardy. A brother preceded him in death as did his parents, and a beloved Grandmother, Rose Hayes. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in Gill funeral Home in Washington, IN. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
